Seal Jumping Jack
Cardio & Conditioning · full · beginner
How to do it
Jump the feet out and in as in a normal jumping jack, but clap the hands together straight out in front of the chest at shoulder height instead of reaching overhead.
Muscles worked
Primary: full · Also works: chest, shoulders, calves
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Letting the arms drift upward into a normal jack instead of staying at chest height
- Landing flat-footed and heavy rather than rolling through the ball of the foot
- Rounding the upper back as the arms open — keep the chest tall and the shoulder blades moving
Variations
- Step the feet out and in for a low-impact version
- Alternate 20 seconds seal jacks with 20 seconds standard jacks
- Add a light resistance band across the back for the arm sweep
