How to do it

Stand in a split stance with one hand braced on a bench or rack and the torso near parallel to the floor, then row the dumbbell in the free hand to your hip and lower to a full stretch.

Common mistakes

  • Twisting the ribcage upward at the top to squeeze the last inch out of the rep
  • Pushing hard through the braced arm so the upper body rocks with every pull
  • Rowing to the armpit instead of back toward the hip, which flares the elbow

  • Dead-stop three-point row resting the dumbbell on the floor between reps
