Reverse Plank

Core · core · intermediate

How to do it

Sit with legs straight and hands on the floor behind the hips with fingers pointing at your feet, then drive the heels down and squeeze the glutes to lift the hips until the body is one straight line from heels to head.

Muscles worked

Primary: core · Also works: glutes, hamstrings, shoulders

Equipment

No equipment

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the hips low so the body sags into a V instead of a straight line
  • Letting the head drop back and hang, which strains the neck — keep the chin neutral
  • Shrugging the shoulders up toward the ears instead of pulling the shoulder blades down and back

Variations

  • Bend the knees with feet flat for a tabletop version
  • Lift one leg for five seconds at a time
  • Forearms on the floor if the wrists complain

Can't do this one? Swap it for

Take care: ABROFIT automatically removes this movement for anyone who has flagged a wrist or shoulder problem. If that's you, use one of the swaps above and speak to a physio before loading it.
