Hinge · glutes · beginner
Start
FinishHow to do it
Lie on your back with one heel planted close to the backside and the other knee pulled toward the chest, then push through that heel to lift the hips until the body is straight from knee to shoulder.
Muscles worked
Primary: glutes · Also works: hamstrings, core
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Letting the hip on the free-leg side drop, so the pelvis tilts instead of rising level
- Pushing through the toes instead of the heel, which shifts the work to the hamstring and calf
- Arching the lower back to get higher rather than stopping when the hips are fully extended
Variations
- Feet on a low step for more range
- Hold the top position for five seconds each rep
