similar: Physioball Hip Bridge

How to do it

Lie on the floor with both heels on a chair or low bench and the knees bent near 90 degrees, then drive through the heels to lift the hips as high as they will go without arching the back.

Muscles worked

Primary: glutes · Also works: hamstrings

Equipment

No equipment

Common mistakes

  • Using a surface so high that the hamstrings cramp before the glutes ever work
  • Letting the ribs flare and the lower back arch to fake extra height
  • Bouncing the hips off the floor between reps instead of pausing and re-driving

Variations

  • Single-leg version
  • Two-second squeeze at the top of each rep
