Sit on a chair with the balls of the feet on a book or step and a dumbbell resting on each thigh just above the knee, then drive the heels up as high as possible and lower through full range.

- Placing the dumbbells on the kneecap rather than on the meat of the lower thigh
- Using the hands to press the weights up with the legs
- Skipping the bottom stretch, which is the main reason to do the bent-knee version at all
