Single-Leg Calf Raise
Squat · calves · beginner
Start
FinishHow to do it
Stand on one foot with a hand on a wall for balance, push all the way up onto the ball of the foot until the ankle is fully extended, then lower slowly until the heel is back down.
Muscles worked
Primary: calves
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Bouncing off the bottom, which lets the Achilles tendon do the work instead of the calf muscle
- Rolling onto the outside edge of the foot at the top rather than pressing through the big toe
- Pulling on the wall with the hand instead of just steadying yourself
Variations
- Hold a dumbbell in the free hand
- Three-second lowering phase
- Pause two seconds at the top
