How to do it

Hold a forearm plank and slide one arm straight out in front of you until it is fully extended, pause for two seconds without letting the hips drop or twist, then bring it back and swap.

Muscles worked

Primary: core · Also works: shoulders, glutes

Equipment

Common mistakes

  • Letting the lower back dip the moment the arm leaves the floor — reach less far rather than losing the flat back
  • Rotating the shoulders toward the supporting side instead of keeping both shoulders square to the floor
  • Reaching up at an angle rather than sliding flat along the floor, which removes the lever that makes it hard

Variations

  • Reach the opposite leg back at the same time
  • Pause five seconds at full reach
  • Perform from the knees to shorten the lever
