Lying Side Lateral Raise

Lie on your side on the floor or a bench with a dumbbell in the top hand resting across your hip, then raise it in an arc until the arm points straight up at the ceiling.

Common mistakes
- Raising past vertical, where the delt has no tension left and the rep becomes a rest
- Rolling the torso backwards as the arm comes up so the chest does the work
- Bending the elbow heavily, which shortens the lever and takes load off the delt
