High Step-Up
Squat · quads · intermediate
Start
FinishHow to do it
Use a box tall enough that the working thigh starts above parallel, plant that whole foot on top and stand up using only that leg, then lower under control.
Muscles worked
Primary: quads · Also works: glutes, hamstrings
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Pushing off the back foot to get started, which removes most of the load from the working leg
- Leaning the torso far forward and lunging up rather than pressing straight through the top foot
- Letting the top knee cave inward during the hardest part of the drive
Variations
- Lower box height until the movement is clean
- Hold dumbbells once bodyweight is easy
Can't do this one? Swap it for
Take care: ABROFIT automatically removes this movement for anyone who has flagged a knee problem. If that's you, use one of the swaps above and speak to a physio before loading it.

Not sure how heavy to go on this?
ABROFIT reads your logged sets and tells you the working weight for today — it adds load when you earn it, backs off when you stall, and eases it on a bad night's sleep.
