How to do it

Hold a light kettlebell upside down with the bell balanced directly above the handle, crush the handle hard, and press slowly overhead keeping the bell perfectly vertical the whole way.

Muscles worked

Primary: shoulders · Also works: rotator cuff, forearms, core

Equipment

Kettlebells

Common mistakes

  • Going too heavy — if the bell tips at all, the weight is wrong for this drill
  • Pressing fast, which defeats the point of the balance and cuff demand
  • Letting the elbow drift out to the side instead of tracking under the bell

Variations

  • Half-kneeling bottoms-up press
  • Bottoms-up carry instead of a press
