similar: Handstand Push-Ups

How to do it

Put your hands on a chair or low table and walk your feet in until your hips are stacked high over your shoulders, then bend the elbows to lower the crown of your head toward the seat and press back up.

Muscles worked

Primary: shoulders · Also works: triceps, upper chest

Equipment

No equipment

Common mistakes

  • Letting the hips drift back toward a plank, which turns it into an incline push-up for the chest
  • Flaring the elbows straight out to the sides instead of tracking them at about 45 degrees
  • Looking forward and craning the neck rather than letting the head travel down between the hands

Variations

  • Hands on a lower step each week
  • Three-second lowering phase
