Cossack Squat
Squat · quads · intermediate
Start
FinishHow to do it
Take a very wide stance, shift your weight fully onto one leg and sink into a deep squat on that side while the other leg stays straight with the toes pointed up, then push back to centre.
Muscles worked
Primary: quads · Also works: adductors, glutes
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Letting the heel of the working leg lift, which dumps you forward and loses the bottom position
- Rounding the lower back to reach depth instead of stopping where the hips still hold a neutral spine
- Letting the straight leg bend so the adductor never actually stretches
Variations
- Hold a light dumbbell at the chest as a counterweight
- Elevate the straight leg heel on a plate to reach more depth
