Start
FinishHow to do it
Stand a few inches in front of a chair with feet hip-width apart, push the hips back and sit until your backside just kisses the seat, then drive through the whole foot to stand tall.
Muscles worked
Primary: quads · Also works: glutes, hamstrings
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Dropping onto the seat and resting between reps, which kills the tension the quads are supposed to hold
- Letting the knees collapse inward as you stand up instead of pushing them out over the middle toes
- Rising onto the toes at the bottom rather than keeping the heels flat on the floor
Variations
- Lower chair or box each week to increase depth
- Hold the bottom position for three seconds before standing
- Stand up on one leg, sit down on two
