Seated Good Morning
Hinge · hamstrings · advanced
Start
FinishHow to do it
Sit on the end of a bench with the bar on the upper back and feet planted wide, then fold the torso forward from the hips until it is near parallel and pull back upright with the spinal erectors.
Muscles worked
Primary: hamstrings · Also works: lower back, glutes
Equipment
Barbell, Full gym
Common mistakes
- Sitting too near the edge so the bench tips as you fold forward
- Rounding the mid-back rather than keeping the chest driving forward as one unit
- Loading heavy from the start, since sitting removes the hamstrings and leaves the erectors alone
Variations
- Wider foot placement to open the hips
- Light bar with a slow three-second descent
Can't do this one? Swap it for
Take care: ABROFIT automatically removes this movement for anyone who has flagged a lower back problem. If that's you, use one of the swaps above and speak to a physio before loading it.
