Standing Oblique Crunch
Core · obliques · beginner
Start
FinishHow to do it
Stand tall with fingertips behind the ears, then drive one knee up and out to the side while bending the same-side ribcage down toward it so elbow and knee meet, and return to standing tall.
Muscles worked
Primary: obliques · Also works: core, hip_flexors
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Only lifting the knee while the torso stays upright — the ribs have to travel down to meet it
- Pulling the head sideways with the hands instead of crunching the side of the waist
- Leaning the whole body forward and losing balance rather than staying stacked over the standing foot
Variations
- Hold a wall or chair for balance
- Hold a light dumbbell in the free hand
- Add a slow three-second return on every rep
