Core · obliques · intermediate
Start
FinishHow to do it
From a side plank with the top arm pointed at the ceiling, rotate the torso and thread that arm under your body toward the floor behind you, then rotate back open without letting the hips drop.
Muscles worked
Primary: obliques · Also works: core, back, shoulders
Equipment
No equipment
Common mistakes
- Letting the hips sink toward the floor as you rotate — the hips stay high the entire time
- Turning only the arm while the ribcage stays facing forward, which removes the rotation
- Pushing so far through that the bottom shoulder collapses
Variations
- Perform from the knees
- Pause two seconds at full thread-through
- Hold a light dumbbell in the reaching hand
